Versioning, naming, retiring an asset cleanly.
Nothing in the library gets silently overwritten. Old versions move to the archive: searchable, citable, never deleted. Retirement is a deliberate act, never a default of neglect.
Versioning
- Major version (v2.0): structural change to the asset's job or audience.
- Minor version (v2.6): refresh of claims, copy, or visuals within the existing structure.
- Patch (v2.6.1): typo, broken link, or accessibility fix. No claim changes.
- Filename carries the version:
diray-capabilities-deck-v2.6.pptx.
Naming
- Lowercase, hyphenated. No spaces. No camelCase.
- Audience comes after asset type when relevant:
capabilities-deck-cmo-v2.6.pptx. - Quarter and year on time-sensitive assets:
velocity-benchmark-q3-2026.pdf.
Retirement
- Retired assets move to
/archivewith the retirement date and reason. - No silent deletion. Even broken assets stay archived for citation reasons.
- Active links to retired assets get redirected to the current version.
- Owner: Brand Kit lead. Cadence: monthly archive sweep plus annual deep review.
- Annual review of the archive. Anything older than 36 months gets a "do we still need this?" pass.
