10.02 · Audit / Voice & messaging

Marketing voice, not operator voice.

The site sounds like an agency selling. It rarely sounds like an operator running. The hero promises sales. The proof reads like a sizzle reel. Across six main pages and eight portfolio cases, the same five tics recur: dramatic claims with no hedge, generic strategy nouns, zero client voice, version-number drift, and a recurring confusion between activity and outcome.

SIGNATURE TIC #1 · DRAMATIC CLAIMS, ZERO HEDGE

Across 8 case studies: not one caveat.

"+342% sales." "+400% Amazon revenue in 3 months." "+352% website visits Q4 YoY." "+59% revenue." "8:1 ROAS." These are the most aggressive numbers on the site. Not one of them is qualified with "directional," "estimated," "vs. a held-out control," "pilot," "stat-sig at p<.05," or any reasonable hedge. The complete absence of caveat language across 8 cases is itself a credibility tell — serious measurement always carries one.

"Our approach goes beyond visibility—we aim for market dominance. By identifying opportunities others miss, we turn emerging brands into industry leaders."

diraymedia.com/portfolio/breaking-through-the-noise/

That paragraph is representative. It is six lines of agency promotional voice, in a piece labeled as proof. Replace it with: "TIDL's category was crowded with incumbents. We isolated three weeks of pre-launch reach to underweighted DMAs, held the rest of the market out as a control, and measured shipment velocity in the test markets vs. control over six weeks. Test markets were up 342% off a small base; the held-out cohort was flat." Same number, different credibility.

SIGNATURE TIC #2 · GENERIC STRATEGY NOUNS

Words that mean nothing because everyone says them.

The site leans heavily on a small vocabulary of strategy nouns: data-driven, real-time optimization, dynamic targeting, adaptive segmentation, full-funnel, custom strategies, cutting edge. Every CTV agency in the market uses the same set. They establish category membership, not differentiation. The site repeats them at the cost of saying anything specific.

On the site

"Data-driven audience segmentation, real-time optimization, and adaptive targeting deliver dynamic results across every screen."

What it could say

"Tuesday: pull the velocity read. Wednesday: shift 12% of weekly spend into FAST tier 1 because premium auction pressure spiked. Friday: report what moved."

SIGNATURE TIC #3 · NO CLIENT VOICE INSIDE THE PROOF

Zero attributed client quotes in 8 case studies.

The Work index page (/the-work/) carries 8 client testimonials — good ones. "Diray is best in class." "I've been working with Diray for decades. They are partners in every sense of the word." That voice is real. Then it disappears. The 8 case bodies have zero attributed quotes from a marketing lead, brand manager, or CMO. The Diray voice fills the entire case — explaining the challenge as they see it, narrating the work as they performed it. The client never speaks.

  • Index has voice. /the-work/ leads with 8 testimonials. Reader is primed to expect voice in the cases that follow.
  • Cases drop it. Click any of the 8 portfolio links. Body is pure first-person Diray. The reader meets a client name (Flex Seal, Pooph, Razor) but never hears the client.
  • The cheapest credibility move. One pull quote per case — "We saw the velocity move first in Walmart" — Brand Lead, RUKUSfx — would do more for trust than any new metric.

SIGNATURE TIC #4 · VERSION DRIFT

Four decades on the header. 37 in the body. 30 in the methodology.

The site cites three different "years in business" numbers across three places:

SOURCE YEARS CLAIMED · CONTEXT
HOMEPAGE
"37+ Years"
In the homepage proof strip. The number doing the most work for the brand.
WHO WE ARE
"35+ Years" / "37+ Years"
Conflicting numbers in the same page. Header eyebrow vs. body copy.
WHAT WE DO
"30 years of linear and OTT expertise"
Methodology page lists a third number for the same underlying claim.

A tenure-led brand cannot drift its tenure number across its own site. Pick one (37 is the most recent), put it in a token, render everywhere from the same source. The fix is one line of search-and-replace. The credibility cost of leaving it is enormous because the buyer who notices the drift is exactly the analytical buyer Diray wants.

SIGNATURE TIC #5 · ACTIVITY DESCRIBED AS OUTCOME

"We did X" is the verb. "It produced Y" is the missing one.

A pattern across most of the case studies: the Solution section lists what Diray did (negotiated rates, optimized in real time, segmented audiences, layered CTV). The Results section lists what the brand experienced (sales up, impressions up, traffic up). The cause-and-effect bridge between the two is rarely shown. A reader has to take it on faith that the activity caused the outcome.

From the Flex Seal case: "8:1 ROAS" over an unspecified time window. From the Pooph case: "Amazon's #1 Searched Pet Odor Brand in 3 years." From the TIDL case: "+400% Amazon sales in 3 months." Big numbers, no causal mechanism named.

FINDINGS · FIVE VOICE FIXES

What to do next.

  1. Add caveats to every metric on every case. One line per result: methodology used, time window, control comparison. Even "before/after, single market, no held-out control" is more credible than no caveat.
  2. Replace 5 generic-strategy paragraphs with operator-detail paragraphs. Start with the case 6 paragraph quoted above. Show the Tuesday-Wednesday-Friday move.
  3. Add one attributed client quote per portfolio case. Eight quotes, one per case, sourced from existing client relationships. Cheapest credibility unlock on the site.
  4. Tokenize the tenure number. Pick 37 (most recent), put it in one variable, render every other instance from it. Run a one-time search-and-replace today.
  5. Build the cause-effect bridge. Every Results section starts with "Diray's Wednesday decision was X. The Friday read showed Y." The reader stops having to take the link on faith.
